Bucaramanga, Santander. June 11, 2022. @MinInterior. The Minister of the Interior Daniel Palacios Martínez attended the XX Capitals Associations Summit that took place in the capital of the department of Santander. There he announced the security measures to be taken during the presidential elections that will be held on June 19.

«During election day this June 19th the country will inact the dry law from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday June 18th until noon on Monday June 20th. The country’s border closure will start at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday June 18th and go until 6:00 a.m. on Monday June 20th,» stated the Head of Policy.

He also stated that the National Government is working to ensure security during the election day in the more than 12,500 polling stations. There are more than 240,000 members of the Military Forces plus 97,000 police who will be guarding each of the posts, and there will be a device of more than 20,000 men who will be in areas of electoral constraint where organized armed groups have tried to influence the electoral process.

International Election Day begins on Sunday, June 12th in New Zealand at 3:00 p.m.

Finally, Minister Palacios sent a message of reassurance to Colombians, stating, «All security measures are guaranteed so that Colombians can go out and exercise their right to vote freely and safely, and that their vote counts towards choosing the new president of Colombia.»
