Bogotá, Congress of the Republic. October 10, 2022. @MinInterior. In joint sessions of the Senate and House of Representatives of the Republic, the amendment, addition and extension of Bill 418 was approved, which will define the State of Peace Policy in Colombia.
“Not only is total peace defined here, along with human security, but also elements such as linking agreements to development plans are incorporated. A new concept is linked: regional peace commissioners, regions of peace, the possibility of partial agreements that are being made both regionally and nationally,” said the Minister of the Interior.
It is important to emphasize that the goal of the National Government is to ensure that peace becomes a State policy that guarantees human security and the construction of Total Peace across the nation.
During the discussion of the Public Order Bill 418, the head of the Interior Ministry said that, “We created the Peace Cabinet as a stable government body dedicated to peace issues in particular and implementation. We also succeeded in approving social service as an alternative to compulsory military service. There has been a lot of controversy about this nowadays and I just want to emphasize that we will not end military service, but we will create a social alternative such as training or digital skill development, to work for environmental protection.”
Prada added, «Elements such as working for children and for those who have suffered abuses of their fundamental rights were incorporated, because there is a new framework here that will surely allow us to walk much more strongly and with a great legal context towards signing agreements.”
